I was getting tired of the repetition of the ‘Milky Way Blankie’ and decided to use the same yarn to make some matching mittens. I might have to make some booties or a hat with it too.

I just used Red Heart Super Saver – and the pattern for the mittens is linked (AKA, you can see it on the page in my binder)

Milky Way Blankie

Working on the baby blanket for well, my baby! It just needs 6 more rows and then I add the stars to it. I’m thinking of crocheting the stars in constellation patterns. Possibly constellations in November/December,

It’s almost 6 months through 2012 and I realized I haven’t made a blog post in 2012 yet. Shame on me. The only excuse I have is that I have been terribly busy. Though no excuse. Anyway. News… there’s been a lot of changes in my life in the last couple of months. One being that I am now expecting my first child. What does this mean for crochet? Oh tons! I get to make cute baby stuff!! I do not yet know what I am having, though I am anxiously waiting… oh lord am I impatient! I’ve been even asking the baby for hints though I am sure it’s swimming around happily in my uterus laughing at me. Because I am aware that my child will have my sense of humor and the “I’ll never tellll….” gene. I have started (and frogged) pieces of my baby blanket that is bright colors and different squares that will be either sewn together or pieced together with sc to form a seam. I haven’t determined yet if I want the seam or not. BUT I will post pictures of finished pieces or even works in progress on the blanket. Because I love the colors I chose. They’re bright and colorful and not pastel which I didn’t want to make for my baby (but will welcome gifts of pastel baby blankets because to tell people no would be rude?) not sure on that one…

Either way – I will try to post more often (as I say a lot I’m sure)

Work in Progress

Currently working on this blanket – and have to be finished by the end of June. I am using Fan & V stitches alternating, and a pattern of 3 colors. It’s 33 1/2 inches long without the planned border. I love the way that the creamy white, deep purple, and cerulean flow well together. Altogether – I’m proud of my progress! I will update as I go!

Trying to find a sweater pattern that could possibly be a good tutorial into making something that I might actually wear. I don’t want a sweater that would look like something my Grandma would make me (and I would love to death, Grandma, and wear it every time I’m cold.) By the time I would finish the  hypothetical sweater it would be summer – so maybe a summer sweater type thing.

Also – my friend loves the Houndstooth pattern so I’m going to make her a Houndstooth scarf (she wants a scarf… haha) in a light and dark pink. Or possibly the dark pink and black yarn.

I found this website: aprildraven.blogspot.com and fell in love with her hats/other crochet items. I especially loved her queen of hearts hat so I may have to head on over to her etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/aprildraven and spend some money on her patterns.

So, today (or yesterday since I’m typing this currently at 1 am) is my birthday. Another day where I am grateful, and very thankful for the things that have happened this past year. I love my friends and family – and my wonderful boyfriend, so much. They make my smiles bigger and my heart beat faster.

This year for my birthday I decided to treat myself to the “expensive yarn,” and by that I mean not Red Heart Super Savers. AKA - my birthday splurge

I have no idea what I’m going to make with it – but the colors are so pretty. It’s so soft too.
I mean no disrespect to Red Heart, but this was soooo soft. It makes me feel like I’m graduating from beginner crocheting and am moving on to new and exciting ventures/projects.

Also – I was very proud of myself for matching dye lots on the cream/light brown/beige color. I normally don’t pay attention. Shame on me I know. But I hardly ever buy more than one skein – it’s usually all I need. Or I use Caron Simply Soft a lot and they don’t have a dye lot.

I’m justifying my indiscretion with yarn shopping. I digress…

My boyfriend got me a kindle and a gift card to get books with – I spent the last three hours browsing amazon and bought five books that I can’t wait to read. My friend April got me a Scentsy warmer along with a brick of one of their scents. If I would have known I was going to be up this late I would have plugged it in and melted some!

Well – anyway – I’m tired and have to get up fairly early to do some baby shower shopping with the girls sooo…. Good night all – have a lovely evening and if you’re living in the midwest and getting hit by some of this snow stay safe & warm!

So it’s Christmas Eve, and what have you done?

Yeah – so it’s Christmas Eve and I am sitting at my job putzing around trying to find things to do to keep myself from sitting down and crocheting until my wrist and fingers hurt. Which… isn’t coming along too great. I’ve done my list of duties for 2 shifts (I’m working a 12 hour shift) and then I’ve done some for the next person coming in. I have 3 and a half hours to go. So I decided to say, to anyone who reads this, Merry Christmas!

I started over on my boyfriend’s mom’s blanket, I decided the granny square I was doing wasn’t turning out how I wanted. Instead I switched to a V Stitch with a fan inbetween both. I like how it’s turning out so far.

I was originally going to complain about my working situation on here, even though that’s now how I intended this blog to be, instead I’ve decided to focus on the good things about my day.

1. I have a job. Despite it being a crappy one, it’s actually a good job as far as this town is concerned. Even if I don’t like being here, there are plenty of people who would like it.

2. I’m healthy. A little tired, but healthy.

3. I have a very good boyfriend who came to say hi to me, and didn’t laugh when I told him I burned the the hot pockets in the oven here. He just smiled and gave me a dollar for the vending machine.

4. I get to spend the next 3.5 hours getting paid to crochet. (That’s alwas a plus, right?)

5. It hasn’t been crazy busy, and the people staying haven’t been rude at all. Always a bonus.

6. I get to listen to sappy christmas music and no one will judge me. At least, they better not. “Where are you Christmaaaas? Why can’t I find youuuu….”

7. I got to drink delicious over priced juice because it was on sale, and specifically reserved for today to make my day better. Also, when I get home I get to drink egg nog that tastes deliciously like chocolate truffles — Thus dubbed “Truffle Nog,” in my home.

8. My cats will have missed me by the time I get home, so at least they won’t attack my face.

9. I like the hotel’s decorations – it all looks very pretty.

10. Tomorrow’s Christmas. I have to work early in the morning, but after that I’m pretty much set for the rest of the day; and I get to spend it with family.

11. Old Christmas movies are on TV right now. So, If I wanted to I could watch them and crochet for the next 3.5 hous 😉

12. I got to make a “12 days of Christmas-esque” like list. I know it’s not quite the song (ok, not by a long shot…) But oh well – it made me happy!

Have  a safe and happy Christmas — enjoy it wherever you are! Also – have a happy 6th day of Channukah! (It’s very likely I spelled that wrong. So sorry if I did.)
